This work was created during an artist residency focused on the learning of the art of weaving and use of a floor loom. Past artworks were cut up into long strips and painted on both sides so that they could flip over and turn through the weaving process and be mingled in with works on paper, clothing and fabrics.

The process created an emphasis on stripes and patterns that ended up influencing later work. During the residency itself, this outcome inspired the whole series which was titled "Stripes Earned" wish subtitled as variou expectations or mile stones an artist is expected to have in their career. Massey saw these individual works as tokens or trophies as if the past artworks used to create the new work had finally "earned their stripes" and gone through the necessary processes to get to their landing point.
