Project Proposals

I have many ideas for installations just waiting for a space to execute them.  If you have a space in which these projects may come to life, please email floor plans and/or any questions regarding their conception or installation process.

“Hung Out to Dry”

I was laid-off a job myself during the height of the Recession, and this installation represents the feelings I had of a connection to History and the 2.6 other million people that found themselves in the same position as I was, be it the banker, car assembly line worker or interior designer.

They are hand stitched together, using scraps of painted canvas and paper with collared shirts, kakhis, nylons, and denim.  Each represents the typical green, blue or white collared jobs, and each has it’s “backside” exposed with a pink slip attached.  They are to be hung from a clothing line set up in the gallery space that allows viewers to see both the front and backs of the works.  Any number of them can be installed to suit the dimensions of the space.

As the situation continued to be compared to the Depression, the images of the clothing lines that used to be so symbolic of New York City really stuck in my mind.  The items hung on by nothing more than a small pin, exposed to the elements, and connected through a line.  As we continue to see funding for the Arts dry up, galleries close, and artists loose their studios, it feels that this time we are being hung out to dry ourselves, waiting to be pulled back in so that each of “us” can do our job again.

“Somewhere In Between”

Multiple cone-like forms in various shades of gray are hung from the ceiling and set on the floor in a stalagmite/stalactites set up.  They are made from painted canvas and paper with scraps of clothing or fabric and hand stitched together.

Having always been a Nature lover, I wanted to create an installation that drew connections of my relationship to Nature to that of the Art World itself.  Caves seemed like an easy comparison.  They can feel like their own separate worlds, have a life of their own, and provide that feeling of discovery that is similar to the feeling of walking into an Artists studio, gallery or museum where you can transported to another place entirely.

Caves had another particular draw for me.  The nature of their existence being underground, and created by the activity at ground level, or in this case “main society.”  The “underworld” feeds and grows due to what is happening outside of itself, just as in Art, reactive to current trends, political and societal changes.  Somewhere In Between is the point where those two world meet.  They are both painting and sculpture, representational and abstract, the point of discovery and having already being found.
