The app is free to download and easy to use. Friends, family members, fans, and complete strangers can vote for my art on the app. The artist whose artwork with the most votes at midnight, Eastern Standard Time, on May 14, 2012 (the day before we announce the West Collects 2012 Winners) will win $25,000 cash. The winner of this popular vote will be announced with the other winners on May 15, 2012.
This is the method the West Collection is using to acquire all artworks for the collection this year. Why? Because they found that there aren’t enough days in the year (or dollars for airline tickets) to get in front of all of the art worth seeing. How many art fairs, galleries, and studios must one visit to get a complete picture of the contemporary art scene? Even with all of the art they do see, almost daily, they know that they are missing opportunities to see a lot of great work. So, they decided to open it up and let you tell them what they should be seeing, what they should be collecting.
